I decided to write my blog about the Michigan Trucking Association. We recently talked about motor carriers in class and I felt this was somewhere I could learn a little more about the industry. This organization is located in Lansing, and its purpose is to serve the interests of the trucking industry.
Drivers, as well as driver businesses, are able to join the association. Out of state carriers can also join. There are small dues but membership includes special benefits and certifies drivers. There are rules and regulations, including safety tests and background checks. The MTA is a network for the motor carrier community in and around Michigan.
If I were in a transporation manager role, I would encourage and require all carriers to join this organization. There are benefits and qualifications that do the industry well. The MTA is a voice in government and represents the industry.
